1618. Marianna de Leyva, Sister Virginia, is imprisoned from many years in a cell without a door or windows, she lives on only bread and water and her only consolation is the Bible. She tells her story to herself in a loud voice to stop from becoming insane and also to have the possibility to listen to a human voice: she speaks of her life, what she feels in the present time, the rules she imposed on herself as a prisoner and also she remembers the past, going over her existence and the events that brought her to live a reality of hardships and seclusion. Passion, secrets and murders, delusions, fears and hopes are interlaced in her story that revolves on a strong, illicit affair she had with her lover, Gian Paolo Osio.
